Adult Education Training Programme

Creating Hope Africa is exploring the need for an Adult Education Training Programme in Velddrif, in partnership with Western Cape Community Education and Training College. This programme aims to help local adults continue their education journey, improve literacy and numeracy, complete foundational learning, and access accredited learning pathways.

A second chance to learn, grow and move forward

Many adults in our community did not have the opportunity to complete their school careers. Others may want to improve their reading, writing, numeracy, confidence or practical skills so they can access better opportunities in life, work and further study. Creating Hope Africa is currently working with Western Cape Community Education and Training College to explore the possibility of establishing a satellite learning campus in Velddrif. 

 

The goal is simple: to make adult education more accessible to local residents who want to continue learning, complete foundational education, or prepare for future skills development. Western Cape CET College currently offers Adult Education and Training pathways, including AET Sub-Levels 1–3, GETC-ABET Level 4 at NQF Level 1, vocational skills training programmes and Adult Matric through the Amended Senior Certificate route.

You are invited to complete the interest form if you are an adult living in Velddrif or surrounding areas and you:

  • Did not complete school

  • Want to improve your reading or writing

  • Want to improve your maths or numeracy skills

  • Want to work towards a recognised foundational qualification

  • Want to explore adult matric or future study options

  • Want to build confidence for work, life or further training

  • Are interested in practical learning areas such as business, tourism, retail, early childhood development, health care support or technology

Possible learning areas

The final programme offering will depend on community interest, eligibility, available facilitators, official programme requirements and confirmation from Western Cape CET College. Possible Adult Education and Training learning areas may include:

  • Reading, writing, language, communication and numeracy.

  • AET Level 1 focuses on learning to read, write and calculate. AET Level 2 develops reading, writing and numeracy skills. AET Level 3 helps learners improve these skills and prepare for possible admission into AET Level 4.

  • AET Level 4 can lead to the General Education and Training Certificate at NQF Level 1. Western Cape CET College describes this as a foundational qualification for adults, equivalent to Grade 9, with learning areas including language, mathematical literacy, life orientation and selected electives.

  • At GETC-ABET Level 4, accredited learning areas listed by Western Cape CET College include Economic and Management Sciences, Human and Social Sciences, Technology, Natural Sciences, Arts and Culture, Travel and Tourism, Information Communication Technology, Early Childhood Development, Wholesale and Retail, Ancillary Health Care, SMME and Applied Agriculture.

  • Western Cape CET College also offers information on the Grade 12 Amended Senior Certificate, which is designed for adult learners. The college states that this route is generally for adults aged 21 and older, with some exceptional cases for out-of-school youth aged 18–20 who meet certain criteria.

What happens after you complete the form?

Once you submit your interest form, Creating Hope Africa will use the information to assess community demand and understand what type of learning support may be needed in Velddrif and surrounding areas. Completing the form does not guarantee placement in a programme. It simply helps us plan responsibly and communicate with interested residents when more information becomes available. If the programme moves forward, applicants may need to complete official registration steps, provide required documentation, and meet the relevant entry requirements set by Western Cape CET College.

We understand that not everyone can complete an online form. Creating Hope Africa is exploring community-based support, including possible door-to-door assistance and in-person help through local partners. Selection Process

The selection process will follow four stages to ensure fairness and transparency.

Step 1: Application

Complete Application form online or complete form at Velddrif Youth Café

Step 2: Screening

Applications screened based on criteria by a qualified panel of mentors

Step 3: Interview

Shortlisted candidates participate in a simple interview with the 2911 mentors

Step 4: Selection

Final selection announced at the 2911 Career Day on the 29th of April 2026
